Dugan's Kitchen

Great meals made easy!

About

Hi! My name is Kathleen Woodard and I have been a marketing director and business consultant for over 30 years. Now that I’m retired, I’m turning to other creative endeavors…including cooking.

I didn’t cook much with my Mom…she was the classic “little of this and little of that” cook, so it wasn’t easy to follow her recipes. I took cooking classes in the 7th and 8th grades and learned the basics. Then in college, I cooked out of necessity since I couldn’t afford to go out to eat. I still wasn’t too adventurous…Kraft mac and cheese was a staple…less than a dollar a meal!

After I got married and had a child, I cooked dinner almost every night. Since I worked full-time I cooked simple things. On weekends I would make big batches of soups, casseroles, chili, and would freeze them so we could make quick meals during the week. I also always enjoyed cooking for friends. We would invite them over for everything from tacos to full turkey dinners, and often, Sunday brunch.

I’m told I’m a good cook, but I wouldn’t call myself a gourmet cook. My family is not very adventurous when it comes to eating, so the recipes I use are fairly basic. What I really want to accomplish with this blog is to help others to eat better and enjoy the creative “art” of cooking as much as I do! I hope you will gain something from reading this blog. Thanks for taking a look!

By the way, in case you are curious about the name Dugan’s Kitchen, it comes from a nickname I had in my 20’s. I worked in a menswear store and there were two Kathy’s. In an effort to distinguish the two of us, and since my last name was Drewry, the store manager called me KD, which evolved into Katie, and then morphed into Katie Dugan, and finally just Dugan. The only people who called me that were my retail friends, but is has always been my alternate nickname….and Kate’s Kitchen was already taken!
